Douglas Stoehr has announced his retirement from Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut as its Executive Director, effective June 30. Stoehr has served as Executive Director for two years, stepping in to serve when Brad Bates resigned in 2005. Prior to being Executive Director, Stoehr served as President and member of the Board of Directors for four years.
During Stoehr’s two years as Executive Director, the affiliate completed five homes: four homes in Ledyard and one home in New London. Three challenge grants have been met raising more than $150,000. Sponsorships for two of the six homes in the Davis Farm (New London) development are in place with building well under way. An additional home is being rehabilitated on Broad Street in New London.
As a member of the First Congregational Church in Old Lyme, Stoehr has been an advocate for Habitat and homeownership for low income families for 10 years. Stoehr has worked on Habitat for Humanity International builds including the Jimmy Carter Work Project build in South Africa in 2002.
Stoehr will continue to serve Habitat in a volunteer capacity. “I am very passionate about Habitat and its work,” said Stoehr, “and will continue to help make homeownership happen for families in need in southeastern Connecticut.”
“The Board of Directors is grateful for Doug Stoehr's leadership and commitment to our mission over the past six years. We are equally pleased that he will remain a faithful resource for our work,” said Board president, Margaret Holmberg
Terri O’Rourke, HFHSECT’s Director of Development, will assume the Executive Director position July 1, 2007. O’Rourke joined the Southeastern Connecticut affiliate in January, coming from the development department of the Hartford Habitat affiliate, where she served for three years as director of institutional support. Her prior career included executive level positions in major retailers, including Senior Vice President of Logistics for Bob’s Stores.
Holmberg stated; “Terri O’Rourke has the management capability, organizational skills, and total dedication to Habitat’s mission that will continue to provide the leadership necessary to build more houses for more families. We are fortunate to have someone of her talents to succeed Doug Stoehr.”
