Administrative or Operational Volunteers
There
are many ways volunteers can contribute to the mission of providing decent

the office, participate in committees whose efforts include public relations,
strategic planning, personnel development, family selection and support,
resource development and fundraising, site selection, construction and more...
Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut needs your
support. If you would like to help, attend a Foundations of Habitat session to
learn more or please call our office 860-442-7890 x215 or write to us at volunteerrelations@habitatsect.org
to let us know what you are interested in.

Restore Volunteers
Habitat for Humanity of Southeastern Connecticut is planning to open a store in the coming months. The store will sell new and gently used construction and household goods and all proceeds will be used to support the building of more homes. We need volunteers interested in staffing the store and in particular need individuals who are willing to pick up merchandise being donated. Other positions we need volunteers for include sales and cashiering, stocking, office support. Please note that children under age 16 are not allowed at the
work site in accordance with US child labor laws. Workers between the ages of
16 through 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and are not allowed to use power
tools.
When volunteering at a Habitat construction site, you may want
to bring your own work gloves, hammer, or tool belt, but if you do not have
these items they will be available at the work site. Small injuries, such as
splinters, can be avoided with wearing proper shoes and gloves. Steel-toed work
boots are useful for preventing most injuries to the feet, but they are not
required. Sandals or other open-toed shoes are not permitted on the work site.
Long pants are usually recommended, except during very hot weather, as well as
long sleeves to help protect your arms. Clothing should not be excessively
loose, such that it might get caught in tools or machinery and cause injury.
Depending on the weather, you may want
to dress in layers (which can be modified as the day progresses) and bring
sunscreen and/or sunglasses. Bring a hat, safety goggles if you think you need
them, and a tool belt if you have it. There will be tools on site, but many
people prefer to use their own tools and anything you can bring with you is
welcome, except that we ask that you to not bring any power tools with you - we
use only our Habitat power tools at our work sites. Remember to take your
personal tools home with you at the end of the day.
